Pure Essentials Giveaway

This contest has ended.

Motherhood is a dirty job, but somebody has to do it...including the laundry.  When Proctor & Gamble contacted me asking if Slurping Life would like to give away a basket of their Pure Essentials laundry products, I screamed replied "yes".  Really, I get as excited about free laundry products as I do a free camera because...well, just look...

Img_1052_edit

Tide, Downy, and Bounce Pure Essentials are made with Baking Soda (Tide), Aloe Vera (Downy/Bounce) and comes in two fresh scents – White Lilac and Lemon Verbena with Citrus Extracts that leaves clothes feeling clean, soft and fresh.  If laundry products can remove the stains my boys create and leave our laundry smelling fresh (and these products do), it's good stuff.

Meet Your Distinguished Panel of Judges and The Winners of A Hippie Photo Contest

Today was too much fun, really TOO MUCH FUN, as evidenced by this photo of your distinguished panel of judges hard at work...
Boy_mom_pile_2

Before announcing the winners a big THANK YOU to HP for supplying the HP Photo Books as contest prizes.  Here goes...

Each photo entered in Slurping Life's Hippie Photo Contest was unique with its own winning quality, and I thank each of the participants for having a little photography fun with me this week.  In the essence of time I will not discuss the get your fat head from in front of the computer monitor, gross, did you brush your teeth today, how do you know, you aren't wearing your glasses, who hit the back button, Ursula NO! don't chew the cord mature, relevant conversation going on while choosing the photo contest winner.  Honestly, amidst the junk talk the boys really took this seriously and pondered each photo with me.  We clicked and viewed...viewed and clicked...narrowed our choices...narrowed our choices some more...narrowed our choices to two photos...and voted.  Amazingly, we lived.

The winner is Sarah of Real Life's groovy shot of sunlight...we can dig it.  Take a moment to pop over and see her winning photo and offer sportsmanlike congratulations.  Sarah wins one (1) 8.5x11 HP Photo Book and one (1) 5x7 HP Photo Book.

Wait, don't click away.  There are three more winners by random draw via random.org.  Here's the list...

Winners,  your shipping address.

I wish there were photo books to give each participant.  HP is offering a 20% discount on the purchase of the HP photo books.  Discount good through December 31, 2007.  If you have not seen them, click over and take a look.  They would be great completed as holiday gifts for family members or given blank to photographer friends.

Peace.  All week I've had the urge to wear tie-dyed t-shirts and braid my hair.  Yeah, I get into these things.

Groovy! A Hippie Photo Contest

The contest is closed.  It's midnight here and I will not be waking the boys to begin the judging...I do have a grain of sanity remaining.  We'll do that later in the morning.  Winners will be announced Monday evening, November 12.  Thanks to all who participated.

Slurping Life is having A Hippie Photo Contest.  HP is supplying the prizes.

Hippie:  A person who opposes and rejects many of the conventional standards and customs of society [photography].

For our purpose in the definition of hippie we are replacing the word 'society' with the word 'photography'.  This is a photography contest and I want you to break the conventional rules.  We are seeking spontaneity, expanded consciousness...shoot from the hip.  As in do not look through your viewfinder, do not frame the shot on your LCD screen...instead give new meaning to point and shoot.  Ya dig?

Then anytime between November 6 through November 11, 12 midnight EST (deadline was extended) post your favorite hip photo on your blog...you may enter up to two photos.  If you don't have a blog, post the photo to flickr or any online photo hosting service of your choice.  Link back to this post using the words Slurping Life is having a hippie photo contest as your link text. Sign Mr. Linky below with the direct URL to your contest entry post/photo.  Do not simply link to your homepage.  For the sake of fairness I reserve the right to delete links to photos/posts not adhering to the guidelines.

The winning photo will be chosen by the combined votes of myself and my three younger sons...yep, we are the judges.  In the event of a tie, my husband will cast the winning vote.  In the event of fist fights and blood shed, I reserve the right to alter the selection process.  Additional prize winners will be chosen through random draw.

  • The photographer of the winning photo as chosen by judges votes will receive two HP Photo Books: (1) 8.5x11 size and one (1) 5x7 size.
  • The decision of the judges is final.  I'm a realist, judging a contest with my boys could turn out to be a process I do not care to repeat.
  • Three (3) additional winners will be chosen by random draw.  The first drawn will receive one (1) 8.5x11 HP Photo Book; the second drawn will receive one (1) 5x7 HP Photo Book; the third drawn will receive one (1) 5x7 HP Photo Book.
  • The random draw winners will be chosen from the Mr. Linky list using random.org.
  • Winners will be announced on Monday, November 12.  If we are smothered under so many groovy entries that the selection process takes longer, a new announcement date will be posted.
  • Due to shipping costs this contest is open to residents of the contiguous United States only.
  • You may ask questions in the comments below or Email Me.

Charge up those camera batteries, get in a laid back, hippie frame of mind and shoot some groovy photos.  Hey dude, remember who your judges are...oh, what have I done.  We will be looking for some totally cool shots (as defined above).

Peace.  Love.  Flower power.

Where's The Contest

Well, you see, I mentioned a contest to be posted today.  I typed up the contest premise, the entry rules, and the prizes.  Then I hit the "save" button and it didn't.  For reasons known only to online gremlins, I was arbitrarily logged out of my Typepad account and VOOM, the post vanished.  You know, VOOM...like the stuff The Cat In The Hat used to remove that annoying pink spot gone wild.

Stay tuned...the contest will go up on Saturday or Sunday or Monday.  Promise.

Right now I have to chase boys back to bed.  It seems one of them is channeling strange voices, one is starving and the other one heard all the fun and joined us.

Having fun...back later.

Please Don't Torture Us Anymore

Originally posted October, 2006.

Well, it finally happened and I have pouted about it for weeks.

"Oh mom, look!  Look at this one and that one!" they exclaim with ooohing and aaahinhg emphasizing their delight.

"I wanna be Obi Wan Kenobi."

"I wanna be a glow-in-the-dark skeleton."

"I wanna be a police officer."

All of these excited exclamations over flimsy-cheap-store-bought Halloween costumes?  The boys no longer wanted me to design and put together the costumes of their dreams?  Huh?  Why?  Not even my sad, disappointed mom face ploy could sway them.

I quickly gathered my wits and spoke up, "Lee, remember the year I spent hours wrapping you in gauze while you had to stand as still as the Statue of Liberty?  What a frightfully realistic mummy you were."

"Mac, what about the year I sprayed your light blond hair with that horrid smelling black hair paint that took weeks to wash out?  You were such a believable vampire  and no one recognized you."

"And Wil, remember the year you were a clown?  That makeup job was so authentic.  Man, it took some elbow grease to get that junk off your face.  You had a rash for days afterward."

"Oh, and the year I put one of you in an orange trash bag, stuffed it with paper and painted your face green.  Such a cute pumpkin."

"Uh, yeah, that pumpkin was me," Lee moans in recollection.

"Boy, you were really sweating inside that plastic trash bag, weren't you?" I say with a smile.

"And then there was the year..." and I stop mid-sentence.  The faces of my boys said it all...I can read body language and the message was coming through loud and clear...

"Mom, this Halloween could we please not be tortured like abused creatures of some rabid human race?  May we pleeeeeease buy the ready-made costumes.  Pretty puhleeze?"

So  uttering the word "fine!" from my tightly clenched jaw, the deal was done.  I tossed the costumes of choice, those cheap flimsy sweatshop made store bought unimaginative costumes, into the cart and wheeled to checkout.

That scene was about three weeks ago and I have remained less than thrilled about the costumes.  But wait...this morning, Halloween morning, as I sat sipping my morning cup of tea an aura of light surrounded me...heavenly voices sang in perfect harmony...the dang light bulb lit over my head.  Tonight I DO NOT have to rush around like a demon possessed idiot woman attempting to apply makeup and pull costumes together to get out of the house in time to get the good candy.  There will be no cries of "You're hurting me.  That itches. Stop!  You got that junk in my eyes."

Oh...my...goodness...I smile with a new found peace.  Tonight while mothers everywhere play the "demon possessed idiot woman" role, I can sit on my butt.  I can simply say "Boys, put on your costumes.  It's time to trick or treat."

I  sit back, prop up my feet, take another sip of tea and suddenly I am pounced upon by a trio of not-so-small-anymore boys shrieking "Mom, mom, read It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown to us!"

They still want me.

~~~
Since life is running me ragged at the moment, I've pulled a post from the days when no one read my blog.  This post was originally published October, 2006.  I'm sharing it today while I prepare a post for a Halloween contest which will be up and running Friday afternoon, October 26.  HP has provided a couple of fun prizes for this and an upcoming contest.  Check back.
An Answer and A Winner
You've all been very patient with me and my contest, and I appreciate your fun participation.
When I posted the contest on Tuesday, the answer was not definite.  I had done a home pregnancy test on Sunday, October 7, and the result was not pregnant.  But I called my doctor Monday morning and told her the situation, described my symptoms and told her the test was negative.  She suggested that because she had just seen me in July and I have had no signs of onset of menopause, pregnancy was a strong possibility  She said to wait until the weekend and test again.  (Thus the week in waiting to give my answer here.)
The doctor said if the second test was negative, I should schedule an exam to make sure everything was fine.  Tuesday while I was in a state of wondering am I or am I not pregnant, I decided to ask readers to ponder the thought with me.  Aha! a contest.
So we have waited.
Well Saturday morning, October 13, I peed on another stick.  Below is the result.
Img_6585_003
The final answer, not pregnant.  I truly feel sad in disappointing so many of you that genuinely wanted me to be pregnant.  Really, someone wished twins for me, most wished a girl for me and each of you sent your prayers and best wishes whatever the outcome.  A couple of you cracked me up over your congratulations that, whether pregnant or not, I was "getting some". A few even kissed up by commenting I did not look old and that they had never thought of me as anything but youthful...wish I had a million bucks for you.
The truth is I truly thought I was pregnant, and I truly did not want to be.  I am on medications that would prove harmful to an unborn child.  From the first moment the possibility of my pregnancy entered my mind, my prayer was "God, please, no.  Give a child to a woman who has been waiting and longing, but please not to me."  I am so happy God and I were on the same page with this one!  Making me happier still is the thought that maybe it's menopause, and I'm one of the lucky ones who just woke up one day and it had happened.  Woo hoo!  Menopause at age 30. ;)
Back to business.  Of 90 comments (2 comments were mine) only 29 guessed correctly - not pregnant.  I printed out the comments; highlighted the comments guessing no; numbered them in the order they were received one through twenty-nine; and using random.org, chose one winning number.  The eleventh "no" comment, Avery of Avery Gray, is the winner of the $10 Target gift card.  Avery, email me with your mailing address, and this fun little card will be on its way to you.
Giiftcard
Thanks again for hanging with me this week.  By the way, should we decide to adopt another child, you'll be the first to know.
Is She Or Isn't She, A Contest (edited)
Is she or isn't she what, you ask.  Here's the story...
Saturday night I did the unthinkable for a woman of "a certain age".  The task had been put off for a couple of weeks*.  Alas, there needed to be an answer to a question hovering within myself...not shared with anyone...not even my husband.  So off to T*rget I went.
I was actually embarrassed to go through the checkout lane. Really. I could just imagine the snickers of the teens, the comments of 'at her age?' by the young mothers and the call of 'price check for blankety-blank-blank item' booming through the store speakers like God's voice announcing folly.  Do you know how old I am?  Surely everyone would be looking at me. Worse still, I had to explain to my husband why it was excruciatingly urgent that I go to T*rget NOW....he'd never believe it was for mascara. Maybe he'd believe toilet paper?  I feared that if he knew the true reason, he might have a stroke or, even more frightening, get in the car and drive...away...as in not come back.  But most unsettling was the thought running through my mind that this could be for real.  Good grief...
I only have so much energy remaining...very few active brain cells...four sons ages 26, 12, 10, 9...
... and I had to purchase a home pregnancy test...
Yeah, uh-huh, you read that right.  I.Purchased.A.Home.Pregnancy.Test.
Hptwrapper_2
So here's the contest.  Is She Or Isn't She Pregnant?
To enter simply leave a comment by noon EST Sunday, October 14 with your guess and, of course, any smart alec comment you would like to make (go ahead, I'm fair game).  From comments with the correct answer I will choose by random draw one winner for a $10 Target gift card.  That's where I purchased the home pregnancy test so they get a little love.  The winner will be announced Monday, October 15.
Never ever ever ever thought these words would be coming from my mouth, but from today forward the contest shall be called...Am I Or Am I Not pregnant?
*Edit:  I realized two weeks ago that LMP was two months ago...that's why the mention of two weeks above. (Oh, the things a woman will reveal on a blog in the jest of a contest.)
And in the 'thrill' don't forget my other post today.
A Contest You Do Not Want To Enter
I knew you would look.  The title is because I want to win the  HP Photosmart A626 Compact Photo Printer giveaway at 5 Minutes For Mom.  I have to post about it to be entered in the drawing, but if I encourage you to enter and you do...it lessens my chances of winning.  But I knew you would read and enter the contest anyway.  It's actually my boys that want this printer.  I have my own HP printer..so we're still friends if you enter.
The drawing for the HP photo printer will be Monday, September 10.  If you would like to just go ahead and purchase one (thereby increasing my chances to win) you can do so at Best Buy or HPShopping.com.
Fragmented Friday
It seems by the time Friday rolls around I am a woman with a fragmented mind.  Be nice, keep those comments to yourself because I know my mind is quite fragmented any day...thank you.  In honor of my fragmentariness (It's really a word. I checked.) here are a few snippets...
Saturday you will find me at Faith Lifts
Monday another part of me will be a contributor to next week's edition of TopBlogMag.
Also on Monday there will be more posted here at Slurping Life about my new blog.
The final fragment of me will be here for Best Shot Monday.
Contests
Pickel of My Two Boys is beginning week three of her series of Signing Time contests.  I've always been very impressed with this DVD series which teaches American Sign Language to children (and adults) of all ages.  Any DVD which can teach me anything is worth it's weight in gold and this series qualifies. Wonder if Pickel knows of a DVD teacher to sub in for me in our homeschool? Might she want the job?  I digress, just click here for information on how enter.
Alyssa of Life From My Laptop is having a Back to School Contest sponsored by Momagenda.  Do you need your life organized?  Bawahahahahahaha...let's stop laughing over my stupid question and go enter the contest to win one of two prizes which will help us do just that.
Nell of Casual Friday Everyday wants to plan your weekly menus and make your grocery list for one full year.  I"m not kidding!  She's just doesn't have enough to do, so she's offering.  Wonder if she cleans toilets?  Seriously, go over to her place and enter her contest to win a one year membership to Menu Planning Central.
Last, but by no means least, Janice and Susan of 5 Minutes for Mom ALWAYS have multiple contests running.  Just click here and go read about the latest ones.  Remember to check back daily because they constantly list contests.  I wonder when they sleep?  Or do they?
Stop It Already, You're Making Me Blush
Dear sweet Nell of Purple Valley has awarded me another Nice Matters Award.  Thank you from the bottom of my tries-really-hard-to-be-nice heart.  I have to tell my mom about these...just so she knows all those years of being tormented frustrated by a teenage girl were not wasted.  Sincerely, I am humbled and honored.
Since I have recently passed this award to other specific bloggers, it now goes out to each of you...my very "nice" readers...with a big THANK YOU for reading and always being nice with your comments.
Have I Told You Lately
...that I love you.  You know...that non-physical from the heart adore you way.  Wouldn't want people to talk.
Your comments and emails in response to my fear of misleading you were all so heart-warming and real.  Many of you comforted me, others confessed, still others said "whew, thank heaven to hear you blow it, too".   Indeed, there was a feeling of bonding and love throughout them all.  We blogging moms and dads (can't exclude my fave blogger dad, Mike, who commented) truly do make a difference in the lives of one another and in the world.  I just want to say "good job and keep it up".
~~
Have I told you lately that I have something up my sleeve?  I do.  Monday I'll share a little more about it, and, of course, it has to do with blogging and having fun.
~~
Have I told you lately about any contests?  Check out the Girly-Girl Contest at Pinks and Blues and do it before Wednesday, August 29th at 3 PM EST.  This is a prize package fit for a little princess with more items in the giveaway package than I want to list.  Get over there and enter by leaving a comment.  Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter.  Shoo, get, go on...
So the doctors say I have to do this and that...that my kids also need this and that...like they did not already need enough care, therapy, poking and prodding.  The doctors also say I must focus on my health...or not be around to focus on my kids.  The doctors say step back, relax, let's change your medications...you need "repose".  All sounds a bit contradictory, doesn't it?  Whatever.  But I ain't dead...there are contests to be won and before I "repose" people...there are entries to be made...
Janice and Susan have scored the ultimate giveaway, and if I miss entering this contest, my husband will hide my laptop and the boys will raid my chocolate stash.  Over at 5 Minutes For Mom, they are giving away an Insignia® 37″ Flat-Panel LCD HDTV!!! This incredible prize is valued at $799.99 and is courtesy of Best Buy.  While realizing that telling you to get over there and enter is lessening my chances of winning...I also believe what goes around comes around.  Go on and enter, but does my family ever want me to win this one...*thinking winning thoughts*
Steph, over at Adventures in Babywearing is also offering a fun and completely useful prize:  A $75.00 gift certificate to  CHITTYPULGA.  Just click the links to find out what on earth is CHITTYPULGA and how you can enter to win.  Thanks Steph, while my kids are big old monkey boys now, I know exactly who I would shop for with this one.
Yet again here we go...Love Shak, Baby is hosting a back to school giveaway.  Gymboree is offering two of their readers each a $250 Gift Card to be used at the Gymboree store or Gymboree online.  Keeping three growing boys fully clothed means I have entered this one for sure.
Finally, Amy the resident Crunchy Domestic Goddess, is celebrating the opening of her adorable shop, Cute As A Bug by selecting one winner to peruse and choose one t-shirt of choice.  Gotta love choices.
I know there are way more fantastic contests to be entered, and one of you had better let me know where they are.  I have to go follow doctors orders and repose...while driving around insanely to a bazillion weekly appointments, administering the boys' follow-up home therapies and home schooling the less-than-attentive three of them...you know, among the routine day-to-day stuff like breathing and eating.  Repose...bawahahaha.
Seriously, I'll be needing all of your prayers and words of encouragement.  Doctors have given me a wake-up call about taking care of myself because of genetic health issues which have become more difficult to manage.  I am going to work diligently at adhering to strong words of advice. My body has proven that being a fitness and healthy eating fanatic just doesn't override genetics no matter that it has always been my lifestyle...so I'm listening.  Stepping away from the computer and blogging is one thing easily (maybe not EASILY) removed from a stressful life with a long to-do list...and I know you identify with that.
My reminder to you...stress kills...take care of yourself...slow down...you really can, slow down that is...it's important.  Oh no, I feel a post coming on so I'd better run.
I know that you know...I'll be back...
